We have seen how important faith is in the life of the believer. It is the very lifeline to our Savior. Just look in your concordance for the phrases “in faith”, “by faith” or “through faith” and see how many times the Lord Jesus and His apostles used these words.
So, recognizing the vital nature of faith, it would be good at this point to discuss some things that the Bible shows can hinder, or even destroy, our faith.
The first faith robber we need to discuss is ignorance of God’s plan regarding faith. Hosea 4:6 states:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
This is a very broad concept, but it does apply here. Many Christians miss the point that we are in a fight of faith and just don’t see just how urgent is the need to maintain a faith walk. But the scripture says plainly:
…. by faith ye stand. 2 Cor. 1:24
and
… without faith it is impossible to please Him Heb. 11:6
The beginning of a cure for this is to pray the prayer Paul prayed for the Ephesians:
Eph. 1:15-19:
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us–ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
We need to give faith the proper priority in our life. We can only do this if we know that it must be done!
